I just got mine at Sears Auto Center. They are the DieHard Truck and SUV (basically Golds in a "anti-vibe package") 875CCA in the northern build. $93 a piece. Awesome starts!
If you are having trouble finding the higher CCA ratings, even though the battery you are looking at is listed for the truck, it may be because you live in a more southern state. On Sears website, they list northern and southern versions of the same battery. I'd imagine other manufacturers do the same or similar.
When I put new batteries in my '99 PSD I bought the Wal-Mart batts and they were very good. I think they were 850 ca and 700 cca and I am pretty sure those are the same ones I saw yesterday.
Yeah, I bought my truck in Texas in September and already the batteries were not liking the chilly temps here in N IL. Switched them from 700CCA Everstarts to the 875CCA DieHard Northerns and it cranks like it was 80 in Texas again!
Where is everyone finding these batteries at Wal-Mart that have 850 or more cca? I was there this past weekend and they didn't have any batteries with more than 700 cca and those were the ones that their book said were for our trucks. Are these the yellow Ever-Start batteries?
Stay away from those. Those are the old ones for our truck. I saw those in one of their stores but passed on them as the CCA was only 700. The new ones I found in another store carry the same part number but the 1000CA and 850CCA rating. $62.38 apiece and three year replacement warranty. I have yet to argue with Wally when returning anything.
Might look at Marine starting batteries for a primary, and a deep cycle for the auxiliary as an option. Check out West Marine or Boater's World, and K/Wal-Mart's. Marine batteries are built stronger internally to take the pounding of rough waters plus the extra reliability needed for avoiding strandings out in the middle of nowhere. Just a thought and what I'm gonna be looking at shortly for my 2000 7.3L F-250 4x4 which I believe (bought used) still has it's original factory batteries in it. Are these class 24 or class 27's?
BTW, did Wal-Mart take in the old ones for core trade-in discounts?

Thanks, I will go to the next store over from us and see what they have.
