batteries

well I beleive it has become time to replace the batteries in my truck. I am curious as to what brand, type, and CCA some of you are using...

I live in western pa so it does dip down pretty cold at times in the winter...I do plug the truck in when I can .. but I can not do so all the time it is cold started..

any recomendations?

Got Wallmart batts. about 4 months ago. Consumer Report rated them highly. If they fail, there's lots of WMs around the good ol' USofA.

I had WM batts, then motorkraft. Now optima red tops and I have to say the WM batts were just as good for less than half the price.

I'll second Clux on the megatrons. A little more $$ but as bad as we treat them in the fire service they stand up to the torcher.

I would get the Walmarts too, but found some at Sams with 850cc for $55 a peice. either way they both have a 3 year warranty. works for me and saves money for other fun things that make the truck go Zoom. lol

yeah I heard those Interstate batteries are really good also. but there $106 each for me. so when it comes time and the check book for new batteries. hmm. dam the pocket book not being big enough. so many things to buy so little money.

This might be pure luck, but a buddy of mine put 2 refurbished batteries at 25.00 ea in his 7.3L 8 yrs ago and they still work fine.

The charging system on these trucks are marginal at best.
I had my alt rebuilt to 180A and so far good as gold.
Before that I would run a 2A manual charge for at least 8 hrs. overnight once a month to keep them "topped off" and that helped a ton.

Don't go less than 850cca...

Also, buy from a national brand. A warranty from a brand that isn't where you are sucks.

Where is everyone finding these batteries at Wal-Mart that have 850 or more cca? I was there this past weekend and they didn't have any batteries with more than 700 cca and those were the ones that their book said were for our trucks. Are these the yellow Ever-Start batteries?
