I have just installed a 351M in a 66 F-100. I have a HEI with a MSD ignition. I also installed a new wiring harness from Centech. I turned the motor over and on both sides of the motor between the 2 and 3 pipes of the headers there are sparks. After inspecting the starter to see if it was shorting to the headers, I saw no marks and I had the engine grounded. I tried it again and I guess the starter went out because all it does is click. I'm replacing the starter any ideas on what to check before I turn it over again.
Are you sure that the power wire to the starter isnt grounding somewhere. Mine did the same thing and I found my wire grounding on the frame. I taped up the wire there and moved it and the starter was fine.
hey ya'll, I seem to be having a problem getting the engine in my truck to start, but however the problem isnt getting it to turn over, it keeps backfiring through the carb (i know timing is off) but when i parked it (before the small engine fire) it was right on 6deg btdc. I also need to know on the dist. cap which is #1. is the firing order
