Well, its been a long week. First, my injection pump went out Sunday evening. So Monday, I pulled the pump off, and then this morning I decided before I took it to a shop I would pull the injectors off and have them tested while they were at the same time. Well, the last one that on the passenger side, closest to the cab, when I unscrewed it, it was extremely hard to turn the whole time. When I finally got it out, the part on the bottom that unscrews to take the injector apart had unscrewed down in there when I pulled it out and it was stuck. So I got a pair of pliers and pulled the internal stuff out of the whole, everything except the bottom of the injector. So I went to a friend of mine who is a diesel mechanic for advice. He told me that since the injector was ruined anyway, if I grind down the big threads that screws the injectors in, and then screw the injector back down onto the thing thats down in there, and then prise it out, it would come out. So I did that, but it won't come out. Is there some kind of pull tool that might ****** that thing out of there?
I had that problem a few years back. I made a slide hammer type thingumabob. I still have it in my tool box I think. I'm at work now but I'll try to take a picture of it tommorrow to send to you. Ed
Yea, the mechanic that helped me is going to bring a slide hammer he has. That should get it to work. I ordered a whole new injection pump and injectors. I got them from an EBAY store for $275 for the pump and $180 for the injectors. They should be here tomorrow or the next day.
First bring that cylinder to TDC......using Mercury Power tune/PB blaster soak the carbon around the injector housing with as little as possible........wait overnight. Now try and turn the injector as if tightening to allow both the top and bottom to screw together and hope fully brake away from the carbon..... now attempt to remove the injector. Try not to dump to much release agent or carbon into the cylinder or you will get a hydraulic lock on startup. Best to remove the gp and vaccuum the carbon out as you clean it off the bore. Remember to crank the engine several revolutions by hand first to ensure it will not jam up and bend a rod if started......
Yes, just disconnect the Fuel shutoff solenoid on the injector pump first to prevent the engine from starting as you turn. On my pump (a 94) the FSS is DS front and I believe they are the same on all models but check first. The FSS will have a continuous 12v while the other 2 wires only stay on until the engine temp warms up and then shuts off.
Also if you haven't already, disconnect both batteries (either both negatives or positives). learned the hard way by creating a nice spark when I dropped a wrench across the glow plug relay. Good luck.
Ok starting on the right is ground down injector, nut that is screwed to injector and a bolt. A piece of threaded rod would also work in place of the bolt. Lastly the hammer, mine is a solid piece of steel with a hole drilled through it. Hope this helps

When I pulled the injectors off my 86, two injectors broke off!! Turns out the shop I took the truck to, must of used air tools to reinstall the injectors...I sweated bullets trying to get them out, but with a little luck and lots of spray lubes, I got them out! The hammer thing looks like it should work, I taped them and put in a bolt then with a slot cut out of a long steel pipe, wood blocks on the intake, I pulled them out. lol
