I am in the process of replacing all injectors on my 1994 7.3L IDI factory turbo F250 (I already replaced IP - turned up 2 flats). When I removed one of the injectors, only the top half came out, the bottom half of the injector unscrewed from the top and stayed in the head. I have tried several times to screw it back in and get it out but no luck (threads engage with head prior to engaging with injector).
What is the trick to getting it out? The threads are super-fine, I'm not sure I'd be able to find a long bolt with matching threads to pull it out, but that's my only idea so far. I'm sure it has happened to someone else. Help/ideas are appreciated.
Also is there a special tool to clean out the injector bore prior to reinstallation, a couple of the holes have a lot of soot. I saw that the Ford factory manual recommends using an injector seat cleaning tool. Is this tool really needed or is there something that works just as well. I'd like to clean the injector threads in the head with a tap to clean them up. How do you keep any gunk from going down into the cylinder?
Pensicola sent me rebuilt N/A injectors instead of G-code (turbo injectors)- I called them and they said it would be fine. The Ford shop manual states that G-code injectors should be used as they have a higher flow rate. Should I send them back for G-code or will they be OK? Forum search seemed to generally agree the N/A injectors should be OK.
Thanks that helped. I got the stuck injector out last night. Gound off the threads of the upper part and screwed it in the lower half of injector. Lots of elbow grease, carb cleaner and persuading with a prybar while turning seemed to do the trick.
Next step is to clean out the injector threads and dig out the 2 stuck copper washers.
My old (non-original) injectors are Delphi no letter code. My new ones are BB code, "made in england", rebuilt from Pensicola.
