starts OK in the morning, but when the engine has warmed up, the starter gets lazy like it's not getting enough power from the battery.
but the battery's good. i keep it plugged on a little solar powered charger cuz i don't use it except on the weekends and it always starts in the morning. even if it's been sitting for a week or two no complaints..
is this my starter going bad or is it just the heat?
if it's gonna be time to change a starter i'd rather do it now before winter.
Could be the starter however, check and clean the connections on the battery first. I thought my starter was going on the 77, but the cable from the solenoid to the starter turned out to be the problem. Once it got hot, the cable wasn't getting enough juice to the starter. Check the cables from battery to solenoid and solenoid to starter. If you have headers, they might be close enough to the starter to give the starter a good case of heat soak. In that case a heat shield between starter and the header could be the answer.
Also, make sure the timing isn't off. After checking these items, then you can have the starter tested and replace if necessary.

What carb? Pedal pressed or not. If you think it's flooded, put the pedal to the floor and crank away. I just fixed (I think) my hot starting slow cranking by replacing all of my battery cables with 2 gauge cables and wire brushing all of the connection spots including the block ground.
