Tedfrd.... I haven't really done anything to the brakes..... but my front locking hubs are really really messed up. I'm putting in manual lockers this weekend... could that have something to do with it.... also every parts store I go to says that they don't have anything to scan ABS Trouble codes... where did you get your hypertech? Thanks
Matt-
I got my Hypertech Power programmer at Advance Auto Parts. You keep saying "ABS Codes". Is the ABS light on? I have been operating under the idea that all computer codes are equal and come from the same hookup under the dash.
I've been in there since and have seen scanners that read / explain and clear codes.
When I had my ball joints replaced, I got an ABS light and corresponding codes on the computer because the mechanic took the receiving unit out of the hub assembly and cleaned it off. He said it would probably cause a code which I cleared the first time with the hypertech but the light came on again on the second test drive but went off in a mile or two.
The ABS light is on, and I have an Actron OBD-II scanner that cannot see that code. I had thought that ABS and Airbag codes need a different scanner or one that does everything. I will check out Advance Auto Parts.
1996 and later vehicles use the OBDII port for the data stream, however federal law does not allow body assembly, airbags or abs to be identified in the "quick scan" tools. You will have to go to a full blown scan tool or an ABS specific code reader.
My Abs light is on too, i think it came out after i went throug big puddle and its one ever since, sometimes when i start the car it goes off but first braking comes back on, i don't think abs is working while the light is on
That is the same way here... once in a great while, it will be off, but as soon as I hit the brake, the light comes on.... The other night, it was raining, and I slammed on the brakes, and the pedal moved in and out a little, and then the light stayed off until I restarted the truck... weird huh?
