What OBD-II Scanner should I buy?

I am thinking of getting a new OBD-II scanner. I have an inexpensive code reader now. I was hoping to find one for about $100. is this possible? I want one that reads PID's. What about ABS? should I get the best scanner I can get without ABS and then later buy a separate ABS scanner if I needed it?........all feedback is encouraged.....

the ultra gauge is great....it appears to cost $85 (but they are out of stock)....I just did some googgling and found something called "torque" it runs on any android based device, ie, phone, Nook, etc......it costs $5 to download and then you need to by a blue-tooth connector. I see people are using an Elm 327?. the Elm is $20-$40.......has anyone used this before?

All depends on what you need & how much money you want to spend. If you have older OBD-1domestic, or foreign vehicles, or just newer OBD-2 or CAN vehicles, you'll want a scantool that'll be able to shake hands with all of the older computers & have a cables that'll hook up to their DLC.

Here is a link to an 07 thread on the subject that might help you think through what you need, so you can get the best bang for your buck. Read all of the reviews you can find on what you want to buy, before laying out your gold for it.

I chose the Actron CP-9150 kit, as I had OBD-1 & OBD-2 GM, Chrysler, Ford & Renault vehicles in the family, so I needed & got wide coverage with the Actron scantool & its updateable on line & covers OBD-1, OBD-2, CAN & any other software updates needed, so it doesn't become obsolete.

Actron makes newer tools that offer graphics if you like, need & want to pay for that & they offer a seperate ABS scantool, if you think you'd need that.

They also make many of the mfgrs & dealers scantools, so they don't have any code link problems & all that makes their line of offerings worth a look imo.

More thoughts for pondering, let us know what you decide on & how it performs.

theres so many out there, its kinda hard to decide. id probly go with a auto x-ray model, dad's got 1 and ive used it a few times, being familier with it, id just as soon stay with a brand that ive had some time with. his is arond 375. the latest & greatest from the same company is somewhere around 700, dont know that i would need $700 worth of scanner though. sometimes its not much help, like when the wife's S-blazer had a issue, all it said was "multiple cylinder misfire", i thought, no kidding, my daughter probly knew that. other times its been quite helpfull though.

I have an Innova which I like. To get Can, ABS and OBDII it would have to be used though at $100. I think I paid around $135 new for mine a year are so a go. Not sure if mine has ABS or not but I will check when I get a few minutes.
