The percieved HP increase is usually less than the advertised HP increase. Of course we all know that chipmakers would never over state the effectivness of their product.
As mods go starting with gauges is not a bad idea.
The Exhaust Mod with downpipe replacement will give you a little more responsive throttle, put a smile on your face, and actually help your truck operate more efficiently all at the same time.

ltfox you are correct, bigger injectors are the only way to keep up with the superdutys. Our stock 94-97 psd injectors are ~100cc, the 99+ superduty have ~130cc injectors. A chip can only take your stock injectored motor to a certain level around 220hp (and it still falls short or a stock superduty). The superduty can make up to 300 hp with its injectors and some programming. The only can of worns you would open would be that you will keep wanting more power from your motor, ie pms.

some questions after reading the posts:
1. What size is stock on DP and the rest of the exhuast
2. would it make a difference if the exhaust was split at where the muffler is located.
Reason's for asking:
I was just given what looks to be a 3 to 3.5" pipes from a dodge cummins that looks like the same size of the exhaust on mine. I know I probably can't use the DP but the rest of the straight pipe has a pipe to go all the way back and splits at the muffler location. I even think it fits over the axles correctly.
So, the new mod would delete my cat and big bulky muff. (Ha ha) and give me a split at the muffler location.
3. I did the DIY Tymar intake mod and I don't notice a big difference in noise. Does this help performance? I didn't notice a huge difference.
4. Also, once and a while, (twice a month), my tranny will not shift from first to second under acceleration. I have to let off of it for a second to get it to shift.
Is this common or would you recommend an immediate fluid replacement and filter kit from the local auto supply store or an upgrade from some aftermarket guy?
I also was considering synthetic fluid. What did it cost you do to it?

Flea I can answer a couple of your questions
1) the stock down pipe is not round in diameter, it is a flattened pipe used for the tight fit between the firewall.
2) The stock exhaust has a 3.5 inch diameter, but it is flattened at the bends. I think the basic fitment of the duals would work but you will have trouble mounting it up to stock locations.
3) This filter does offer better airflow to your engine but the biggest advantage from this setup is its filtering ability, and it creates a much better seal than the factory box.

I'll have to wait a while for that, though. The body lift kit is cheap. I think I got his for $115 delivered. I will start watching for that on e-bay. It takes a full day to do the lift and the exhaust work but it is oh so worth it.
