Anyone have instructions on this? I've done brakes, but never ABS stuff, so it's kinda new to me. I wasn't sure if I have to remove the caliper or not.
I was hoping I wouldn't have to do that. I pulled the code for the ABS light staying on and it's the C1155 - LF wheel sensor malfunction. Brakes work fine, just have that annoying light. It's already started snowing in the mountains, and I need my ABS to be working for winter time.
I also threw my back out, so I'm waiting to feel better before I work on it. Just wanted to do some research on replacing the sensor before I tackle this job.
Since the tone-ring is INSIDE the wheel bearing assembly, it's not likely to get dirty and malfunction unless the bearing is bad and starting to shred. Other systems where the sensor is not inside the bearing assembly, they can get dirty and cause problems, like engaging the ABS at low speeds.
You do have to remove the caliper and rotor. You can remove just one retaining bolt and swing the caliper out of the way. The rotor shield is also in the way, but you can bend the "finger" out of the way that protects the sensor.

i could be wrong but i thought that the tone ring was outside the bearing assembly(unit bearing). in the winter if i plow alot of snow, snow and ice get packed up around the tone rings and i no longer have ABS. it has only happened about 3 times and when all the ice and snow melts i have ABS again. the ABS light does come on too.
if i remember next time i go to my moms i will check where exactly the tone ring is since i have my old unit bearings and spindles there. i did the dynatrac kit which replaced the unit bearings/ hubs and outer axle shafts.
just replaced my hub today. the bearing took a crap. on mine, the ring was inside the hub assembly. $231. still need the new warn hubs. anyone have #'s.
I haven't had a chance to look at it yet since I threw my back out. Today was the first time I've even driven my truck in over a week. Anyway, almost home and I heard loud thumping (louder than the blaring radio at the time). The noise came from the left front wheel, and I felt the thumps through the floor but not through the steering. I was doing 50-55 mph at that time, but the thumps were not rhythmic. I pulled over and checked it out, but nothing was out of the ordinary that I could see. I wiggled any suspect steering and suspension components trying to find something loose, but everything checked out ok. I drove the rest of the way home and the thumping was never duplicated.
Anyway, as soon as I get a chance I'm going to get it checked out. As bad as my back hurts right now I'm not going to work on it myself. I hate taking my truck to a mechanic.
