You really need to get the codes read, using a scanner that can read ABS codes (most cheapo ones can not).

However, the one reason the ABS light comes on that will not throw a code is LOW BRAKE FLUID in the master cylinder reservoir.

One of the most often causes is a bad wheel sensor. However, as Krewat said, use a good code reader and you can narrow down the problem.

I've had the ABS light come on in my truck and wifes car. I read the codes in the truck and the code came up as rear sensor something.?!?.. I checked under the truck, pulled the wheel and then reset the PCM on the truck and the light never came back on and that was over 2 years ago. I reset the PCM on my wifes car with out reading the codes because I don't have a scanner for her car, but resetting it on hers the light never came back or atleast she never told me about it coming on again.

Abs

I have the same year. I changed out my wheel sensor and it fixed the light problem.. The sensor is not that expensive and easy to do. It is located in the rear diff. That sensor sticking out of the top is it. One bolt and alittle muscle and out it pops. I also noticed that before I changed it the speedo would stop moving some times. Now no problems.

You must be reffering to the Vehicle Speed Sensor.

If your going to change the VSS make sure to use a 3/8" socket, and not the 10mm. The ten will fit, but if the bolt is tight the 10mm might round off the corners of the bolt head, and makes the bolt almost impossible to remove. Seen it happen. Also you can spray some brake clean through the slots on your wheels aiming at the sensors and clean them up a bit, Or remove the wheel to get a better shot at it. Start simple and work up. Is the master cylinder full? If not your brakes are worn and a lot of the fluid is in the lines to make up for the decrfese in pad thickness. Add fluid and check for abs light. Just remember through when you change your brake pads someday, that is if you do your own work, before you compress the brake caliper pistons remove some of the brake fluid from the master cylinder or you will have a nasty mess on the wheel well paint and else where. This stuff will remove paint.
