Thanks for checking this out. I have a 67 F250 CS, Friday I bought this camper, way nice, small, been in storage since the seventys. Question under the hood there is a second tray for a 12 volt battery, this battery must have been a shorty to be able to close the hood, cables are there, would the camper run off this battery and not draw from the main battery, can you still find them. One would guess there is a isolator between the two, any info would be helpfull. PS I dont have a owners manual for this truck is there a web site I could view. Thanks for the help Rod.
Jerry thank you, this is of intrest to me and I would like to find out as much as I can about this, for now I have a solar panel and a battery down the side for power.
The stock configuration didn't have an isolator, just a smaller (about #8) wire going between both positive posts. I would recommend you install an isolator between the two batteries to keep the camper battery from draining the starting battery.
The first mod I did when I got my '75 was to add a 2d battery - on the drivers side w/ an isolator in between. That powers my CB, Xtra lights and the canopy. I've even jump-started myself a couple trimes. I have a separate fuse panel for it. Many off-roaders and most campers have the 2d battery so the main battery stays up for "normal" use.
Ford originally connected them thru a relay without an isolator but that does not work well for many reasons. An isolator is your best bet. You can get isolators at RV supply houses.
