John, you have gotten some good advice from these guys but you may want to do one more thing, run a bottoming tap in each hole to clean the grit out, then spray a couple of shots of brake cleaner in the holes to get rid of the oil, .
Then use a TORQUE WRENCH to tighten the pan bolts to 10-13
ft-lbs. Also, check your bolts. If they have been in and out a few hudred times, they get elongated and the torque reading will be wrong.
John;
Here are a few things I have learned chasing a leaking C4 pan.Flattening the pan flange is vital, use a sheet of glass to check your work. Clean out those threads in the case with laquer thinner or carb cleaner but also use a round-tail brush to get them clean and dry; same with the bolts. Shellac is a cheap substitute for thread lock. Get a 1/4 inch drive torque wrench and use it rather than tightening by feel. Do everything dry; don't use any sealants or silicon gasket makers.
To drain the converter, disconnect the pump-out line from the trans into a bucket. Start it up, let idle, run it thru the gears to empty the transmission. Then drop the pan, change filter and have fun chasing those pesky leaks. You will succeed!
Hey Guys all, thank you for your tips, the fluid is fairly new in the pan and I really didn't want to, but I guess I gotta. I will put it off a little longer but I will do it soon.
With my thanks let's put a ribbon and bow on this thread and end it. :-)

In the cool still quite of night you can hear chevies rusting away.
I stopped in at the tranny shop that built my C6, and asked about Type F & Mercron III and the leaking pan. He said the the fluid was the same, and that because my truck was parked more than driven the fluid drained out of the torque converter back into the pan, raising the level to the dip tube or other areas that normally didn't have fluid there. He suggested that with a flashlight look at all of those areas first for the leaks. He suggested putting teflon tape on the bolts and hopefully the leaking will stop, and if the other seals were leaking he would replace them.
