I recently bought a 64 f100 for my 1 year old son. I needed the time to build it with a few adjustments. It's my daily driver right now and I love it. I was raised Ford and my son will be too. It has a 292 V8 with a 3 speed. I have been reading these boards since February and I have to say that I have gained more info and ideas than I can afford, literally. What I'm searching for is a good drivetrain combo and what can I get it out of. My dad keeps pushing for a Torino setup, since he loved our old station wagon, but I would like something bigger than a 302 like a 351 preferably. I can't buy anything new right now, so I have going to have to go digging in our treasure yards and see if we can find a good combo. Here are some of my questions:
1. What can swap directlty into my setup?
2. Would I have to change the rear end too?
3. What make and model car/truck can I pick from to get some disc brakes and power brakes for my 64?
4. I also need an alternator to replace the generator. What do I ask for at the parts store (like amperage or voltage) or what can i pick it out from? It also has A/C (Frosttemp 400) so I know what I have might not be able to handle it.
5. I have already replaced the original radiator but it's still a 2 row. From what can I get a compatible 4 row?
I apologize about the size of the message but its been an ordeal to get on and I love reading these boards. I'm 27 and most of my knowledge and experience is self taught. I really appreciate the help guys.
My e-mail is kingjeffe(No Email Addresses In Posts!) and I welcome any ideas and info.
The only direct bolt in motor is another Y-block. You can buy motor mounts and perches to install anything from a 289 to 460. No factory parts for disc brakes, but try http://www.ecihotrodbrakes.com they have a conversion kit for about $350. For an alternator, go with a GM one wire unit. You will have to build your own mounting brackets, though.
That should give you something to think about for a while
I know you said that you were going for big CID, but a 223 I-6 wil also bolt right in. That might be something to consider. Who knows how much gas will cost by the time your son is old enough to drive.

do you need a 4 core rad.?
the 2 row should be enough radiator.
depending on what you do... i love in las vegas, and in the summer when its 110 outside i tow a boat with my 64 4x4.
i got all my stuff out of a 64 f350 dump truck
the 292 engine and monster 3 row radiator were direct bolt ins
the first thing you have to decide is weather or not youre going to use the stock drive train, cause if youre gunna go with a 351 every thing is going to have to be chaged
i wish i could fabricate cause a 351 sure sounds nice.
Thoughts on radiators: I had my old 66 radiator recored into one with a built in auto trans cooler, using the old top and bottom tanks, for a fraction of the cost of a new one. Check out a good radiator shop, you might be able to recore and solve any problems you had with the old one.. Same shop could relocate the hose outlets if needed for a different engine ..
