How do I go about flushing my trans. I have a 99' Lightning with 95000 miles on it. I want to put a deeper pan on it and one with a drain plug. What type of fluid is recommended?
Thanks
Don

Reason: Missed spelled word
As for flushing, drain the pan, trans cooler, and, if the converter has a drain plug on it, you can drain all of the fluid out of it as well...that'll get just about all of it. You can loosen the bolts on the valve body (and theres a bunch of 'em), but I don't think you'll even get a half a quart out of that.

I prefer this method versus the power-flushing method via a machine.
Ever since Ford has come out and said to use Mercon 5, going against everything they've said ever since the 4R100 has been manufactured, there's been a lot of naysayers on the Lightning boards as to the validity of Ford's assertion.
The common consensus on the L boards is to continue using the Dextron III/Mercon tranny fluid.
Ford allways pushes ford products, my dealer woud not put Mobil 1 in my truck, now i go to Jffy lube, they change to oil and filter with Moble 1 for the same price that I pay at PEP boys just for the oil.
