How much should I expect to pay for a trans. flush. I know dextron 5 is not cheap. 99.5 F-350 4x4
If it were mine I would not pay to flush.
I did my own fluid change 10,000 miles ago and all is well. I now have 133000 miles on it and still runs like new one.
I really don't think a flush is a good idea. Just drain torque converter, change filter and oil in pan. It holds about 18 qts and my 2000 took 17 to fill up. So I got most of it out. Others will tell you to flush, but it doesn't take much trash to hang a valve in the valve body. So your choice to flush or not, but I don't flush my Ex 7.3 Diesel tranny or the Corvette or the Mercedes. Only change fluids and filters. Jim
Thanks, The only reason I was considering a flush is that I do not know what brand fluid the po put in and I am putting in a 6.0 cooler and did not want to mix fluids. He did say that it was always done at a shell serive center with a synthetic. Should I be concerned about this?

No, I would not, if there is a residue of "ford" oil in the tranny it won't be an issue based on my information. Today synthetic fluids almost have to mix with normal fluids to avoid equipement failure and legal action.
I still would just drain and refill. I used Mercon / Dex III a few months ago with it available just before Dex V was given the go ahead.
But I still don't use synthetic in the tranny. My boat is only 7000#'s total weight so towing isn't any near capacity not to mention it should pull capacity with "non-synthetic" fluid.
Now consider the differential. YOU MUST USE SYNTHETIC 75W140 that meets the Ford spec. There are many that will be synthetic but don't state on the bottle as to meeting specs. So use caution for heavy towing on differential oils. And if you have limit slip Ford spec must be met to avoid issues. Jim
Thanks Jim. One more question. I was just reading the following link https://www.ford-trucks.com/article/...nsmission.html and it says not to use merc 5. this is I believe an old article and may have changed based on your last post?
If I remember corrrectly the Merc5 is the Mercon Dex 5. I researched all this before I did mine,, but I used the Merc III fluid as it was still on the shelf.
