Carpet

I have a question what do you guys use for carpet or do you use matts or what? I have a 1966 F-100 and I bought some of that carpet at wal-mart and installed it myself. It looked okay but needless to say it didn't hold up that well. I was wondering what everyone else done? Is there a place where I can buy a matt, or buy carpet molded for my truck. I have a B&M aftermarket shifter in there though, if that would make a difference but I could always just cut around it.

Thanks alot
David

Hi David, I also got carpet for my '60 from Kragen and am using floor mats. You may be able to get the stock rubber floor mat from one of these 3 places for yours.

My personal choice is a rubber floor mat. The way I use a truck precludes having any carpeting. I got mine thru JC Whitney and used it with an underlayment. It fit well and has worn quite nicely once that rubber smell went away. The biggest difficulty was figuring out whether I had the low or high transmission hump.

I would prefer the rubber floor mat, but I was saving coin for use elsewhere. The rubber floor mat will be coming soon.

I got a reproduction carpet for my 66 at a car show for around $100 from one of the regular commercial vendors. I think it was supposed to be for a 67-72, but it fit mine perfect, correct type and all. JC Whitney has the same types, you will really like the was your cab looks. Mats are fine too, I had an extra original custom cab mat that I installed under my carpet set, to get insulation and supposedly some noise reduction. Seems to work just fine..What ever you like, thats what it's all about..

I used their paper catalog, I think it was the truck specific one, as their internet site wasn't working too well or else not everything was being shown. As I recall, the mat was around $60 and is molded to fit, not one of those 'it should fit with a little trimming' nonsense.

Looking at my fall JC Whitney catalog,641R-08, they have on page 25 a floor mat that will fit the 65-72 models for $50 for the 3spd, or $60 for the 4 spd, plus shipping. Check their website, there should be a way to get a free or cheap catalog there...
On the same page, there are carpets too! Good Luck!
