I see what he is trying to do. I also see the logic in it, but just don't think the ribbed larger pipe hurts it all that much as it has to go through that smaller turbo mounted one. I suppose there would be some turbulence but I don't think it's all that detrimental.
Yes BigTorque, air is a fluid. Turbulence is bad. If the ribs are bugging ya, get an AIS or pipe it. Money better spent.

well, all righty then, picked up a 4in pipe today, going to install it tomorrow, just need to insulate it to keep it cool,,,,hummmmm any ideas????????????
thanks again FTE for all of your info............if this works well, I will take some pics and post.
I was thinking some double walled pipe but I see you already got the pipe. You coulda cut the outer wall back ehuff to get the hose clamps on and that would have given you some dead air space for insulation. Hmmmm how to insulate it and still make it look good????
I use a piece of 4in. exhaust tube for the smoothness. Go for it, buy something for yourself. We deserve it!
I did the same, at least I think this is what you guys are all talking about. I took out that plastic middle piece of the air intake (between the filter & the turbo), the piece that the CCV attaches to. I took it out during the CCV Mod. I haven't had any Higher EGT's from it. Here are a couple of pictures. Is this waht you mean?

I believe he wanted the big ribbed portion on the right gone altogether.
OK, so the idea is to cut out the ribbed portion & replace it with another piece of 4" pipe? I'm slow tonight - plus I don't think the German beer is helping much
