fuel pump issues

Last night I tried to pull a friend out of the mud, after 1 jerk my truck cut off. I figured that the fuel pump safety switch tripped, I reset it and am still not getting any fuel. Today I pulled the fuel pump out I checked the Voltage with a Fluke multi meter with the key turned to on @ both the pump and the connector on top of the pump I have 11.98 volts, but the pump would not run so I decided to try a hot wire from the bat to the pink wire and a ground to the black wire coming directly from the battery and the pump comes on. I tried calling several local ford dealers and the only advice I got was to bring it to them.

I am at whits end right now and am about to run a hot wire from the ignition to the pump bypassing all the relays and the FP safety switch if i do this what are the pros/cons and what issues will i run into

Thanks
Mark

Thanks, This issue has me completly puzzled.

This is my first Ford every other vehical I have ever owned has been a GM product (3 Z28 Camaro's, 2 Trans Ams and 2 chevrolet trucks) with them I had transmission issues and 2 months into owning this I am thinking about getting a BMX LOL!! since their is alot less that can go wrong and they are alot easier to fix.

The issues with wiring the pump directly have to do mainly with with safety and trying to remember to turn the pump on and off.

Right now you have the safety switch, and also the computer monitiors the engine to make sure it's turning. If all this passes, the pump runs. If you are in an accident, and the fuel line got cut, they did not want fuel spraying out all over the accident area possibly causing a fire.

You need to somehow check the voltage to the pump circuit, with the pump plugged in. If you have a bad connection, the fluke meter will still measure voltage since it is a very small load on the circuit. The pump is a large load, and will pull the voltage down.

I would leave the pump plugged in, and check the voltage after the safety switch. It sounds like it did trip, and maybe it's not making good contact now.
