i have an 89 f250. having issues with the fuel pump system. my truck died the other day, the fuel pump wasn't kicking on. i tried replacing the relay, nothing. pulled the pump and tested it, it works just fine. i tried running a new wire from the relay hot wire to the pump and that got the truck running, but the fuel pump won't kick off ever. help
Check the fuel pump cut-off(accident(inertia) switch) that's under the driver's side dash area on the firewall. Reset it by pressing down the red button. If that still doesn't help, use a test light and see if you are getting power to that switch. If you have power to it but none out, its time to replace it. My failed and I just capped the wires together while on the side of the road.
If pushing the button down on the fuel pump cut-off(accident(inertia) switch) or jumping it does not help then:
Does the fuel pump relay click when you turn on the key and click again (drop out) one second later?
If not ground pin #6 of the Self-Test plug on the drivers fender and turn on the key and see if the selected fuel pump runs then.
