I think my transfer case shift motor is sticking on my 99 eb expo, has anyone tried to take the motor apart and see why is sometimes get stuck? when i pull it off am curious to see why they keep gettin stuck. and also when the shift motor is replaced does the battery have to be disconnected to reset the GEM...........
Thanks for the help grey. I finally got it to work. I decided to take the motor apart and put it back together again. I don't have the slightest clue what I did differently, except for the fact that I made sure the armature inside the motor spun freely before I put it all back together. I put it back on the transfer case and it worked just like it should.
BTW- Someone should write up a post about how easy it is to clean these shift motors. There really is NOTHING to it. Even an amateur could do it. And as for the three wires that go into the transfer case(sensor IDs and magnetic clutch feed), everyone should know that they DON'T have to be cut and spliced. There is a red lock(a plastic piece around the center pin) in the connector that can be pulled out with a pick of some kind that will allow the pins to be released with a screwdriver. But anyway, thanks again.
ALSO I WAS TOLD THAT THE REASON THE MOTOR STOPS WORKING IS FROM LACK OF USE , THERE ARE METAL CONTACT THAT CET DIRTY AND ONCE A MONTH THE MOTOR SHOULD BE PUT IN 4WD TO KEEP THE CONYACTS CLEAN
so has someone written a write up on cleaing the motor?
Mine is siezed up. the car thinks it is in 4lo but it is in fact, in 2wd. and the transmission is going in to protected mode or whatever and the cruise light blinks when shifting into third gear
This is my first posting and am hoping that someone can help. I have a 2002 diesel excursion. Once last week as I parked and locked the truck with the key fob, the alarm went off. after some fideling, open close doors, start ignition, close and open doors again, lock and unlock, etc, aftrer about 5 moinutes I got it to stop, not sure exactly how.
Then last night as I returned home it happened again this time just when I closed the door, but did not lock it. Nothing I did could shut it off till I removed both battery cables.
Any Ideas?
