My 97 f150 is stuck in 4 low. I got stuck plowing through our midwest blizzard and now it won't come out. It is electric shift on the dash. I had a brake line break during this whole mess and I fixed it. I wasn't sure if that could have something to do with it not shifting due to the fact that you have to put the truck in neutral and hold the brake when you shift out.
What are some other possible things to check? It does not make any clicking sounds when I try to shift like it normally does. Could it be the seilinoids?
Can I pull the shift motor and shift it into 4 high just to get by?
Any suggestions? I know this is a very common problem but it seems like every situation is differnt. Please help
As you know there is a difference between 4H and 4L in gearing.
In 4L the motor shift sked is greatly different.
Being stuck in 4L means this is in effect. Providing nothing is actually frozen from water intrusion, the transfer case motor may be stuck in the 4L position.
The front vacuum motor at the front axle would be operated in either case so should not be the cause.
The transfer case motor moves internal transfer case gearing so you need to get that back to normal if you take the motor off.
Notice the motor has strip line conections to relay it's position back to the GEM module thru the harness and plug..
Be sure you are in neutral with foot on brake when doing all operations for 4L. The GEM modual expects to see these signals from the DTR and brake switch.
Good luck.
soemthing is wrong with the wire or motor on the side of the transfer case. You are stuck in 4Low. Either the motor is not getting the signal to switch, or the motor is stuck, or internal problme.... since it "just happened" when you were in the snow, i would crawl under and look at the motor on the transfer case and assume it is right there.
why am I not seeing any wires? all I have seen under there is the actuator and the pink and blue vacume lines. Where is the motor and wires. I feel like such an idiot!!
I just had the same problem, no snow, mud or cold. Had it towed to dealer
in Peoria az. $1200+.( $400 for elec. mtr. $400 for elec control module and $400 labor). Would not give me the broken parts. I felt screwed.
