Hello All,
I've reading a couple of other posts BUT!!! My 2000 Expy is stuck in 4WD, the interior selector switch light goes on when I switch from AWD to 4H,4L, I can hear the shift motor engaging but I'm getting a banging noise in the front axles?
I have removed fuse #104 and still no results, front is still engaged, there is no
Actuator on front axle, I have the box behind the battery and two lines one going to each front axle,my plan was to remove front shaft and see if front still binds when turning? Could it be bad CV joints? Or the actuator on the wheels themselves? Shift motor on transfer case stuck?? Any input APPRECIATED!!!
A THANK YOU IN ADVANCE!!!!
Mitch

You might want to double check that - I don't believe that a 2000 Expy has a front axle actuator OR IWEs.
And pulling fuse 104 will kill power to the transfer case shift relays, preventing the transfer case shift motor from functioning.
I'm assuming that the transfer case shift motor is functioning since you stated that it shifted from high range to low range. Might want to verify that the "low2high" transfer case shift relay (up at the top center of the I/P) is getting power and is sending power to the TC shift motor. .
Hi Jim,
Thanks for the input! The I/P is located where? Yes you are correct there is no actuator on the front axle,so it's just the two lines going out of the box behind the battery to each wheel,is it possible for those actuator within the wheel to fail? I tried a vacuum pump on them while disconnected and they hold pressure no problem. The AWD switch seems fine from AWD to 4WH to 4WL and back but front WILL NOT DISENGAGE!! Shift motor seems to click from all selections!!
Thanks,
Mitch
If pulling out fuse 104 didn't clear up the issue then the problem is a mechanical failure of the forward clutch inside the transfer case. The vehicle will be drivable and feel normal if you remove the front driveshaft.
Thanks Alloro!!
I did pull the box behind the battery with one line connected to it,when I removed the line the air released, is the box good? Or does it have a relief valve in it? Any way of testing it?
Or am I good to go and use this box till clutch is repaired in transfer case??
A MANY THANKS TO ALL!!!
GOD BLESS AMERICA AND OUR VETERANS!!!
Mitch
Thanks Alloro and you also Jimmy(PDQ)!!!
I took out front shaft this afternoon and made a 70 mile round trip working my bird dogs,
Front wheels disengaged (F-TROOP BACK TO NORMAL!!) how ever back to forward clutch/transfer case issue- ??? I have knowledge to drop tranny x case but no facility to do so, so at 58 I'll sub out the job, what is a reasonable price to repair forward clutch in transfer case??
