I,m putting a 93 Mustang booster-master cylinder and the dash mounted brake pedal in my 54. My question is: I don't have the proportioning valve that came with this setup but I do have a good disc/drum valve from a 72 full size car, will it work?
Is the MC a disk/disk? then the proportioning valve you have should work, although you may find that you want to put an adjustable valve in one of the lines to fine tune it later if one end locks up too soon, but that can be the case with any brake component swap. If the MC is a disk/drum it may have a proportioning valve already built in(?) if it didn't have an external one originally.
I have a proportioning valve from a mustang, if you need it. I used the
mustang power booster and firewall mounted brake pedal in my 1955
F-100. The proportioning valve with the original hung almost 10" below
the master cylinder & was going to hit the valve covers on the 302 engine.
I was going to relocate the proportioning valve & make new brake lines
from the master cylinder to the valve. That's when I got into trouble, I
could not find any fittings or tube ends to fit the valve or master cylinder.
The tube fittings are not AN or inverted flare. If you have access to good
Ford technical info you might be able to find info on these fittings.
I would be surprised if the 1972 valve fittings are the same as the 1993
master cylinder fittings, but it's worth checking.
I ended up using the Mustang pedal & booster, with a 'Corvette' style
master cylinder and proportioning valve from Classic Performance Parts.
All the fittings were SAE thread and all the tubing was inverted flare.
Thanks for the info, seem like I can handle the bust your knuckles type work on this thing, but when it comes to the technical stuff I seem to be outside looking in.
