My '95 AWD XLT automatic Aerostar has started to exhibit this problem. The ABS seems to come on and off intermittantly and what appears to be randomly. Anyone have a clue what might be going on?
1. Brakes lights - make sure Both bulbs are working.
2. Brake fluid level - make sure the reservoir on the master cylinder is full.
3. Shuttle valve switch on master cylinder - This switch is screwed into the front of the MC, and the hole it goes into can collect moisture. The resulting corrosion byproducts can short out the switch, causing brake warning lights to come on. Pull the switch and check with a flashlight. Clean out any gunk you find in there.
Thanks for the tips, Ill check those out. I just swapped out the PS pump. I might have knocked that shuttle valve switch you mention. It's been a coon's age since I checked the brake fluid level. I had a chance to follow it for a couple blocks the other day and all the brake lights are working.
I have no ABS, but i use to repare WABCO abs on trucks... Usually abs light if connectors on wheel speed sensors are bad and loose contyact periodically....
