Brake rumble?

Brake rumble?
Hi guys,
When I apply the brakes to my '90 Ranger, I hear and feel a deep rumbling sound from the back.
Is this a classic symptom of a warped disc?
I know one should not assume anything, but I would like to arm myself with some knowledge before I take her in to a mechanic so I won't get screwed.

Rangers run drums on the back, but it's very likely something out of true with the brakes. There are a couple other issues that can seem like that, but you can usually narrow it down yourself by paying attention to what it seems to do & under what you're trying to do with it. Sounds like you've done that. You're probably looking at a new drum soon. Hope it's cheap.

Thanks guys...The plot thickens!......Today at a stoplight some fool pulled out in front of me and I had to slam on my brakes.
The left rear brake apparently hung up for a few moments, because I could feel it tug for about a half-block, and then I felt it release.
When I arrived at work, the left rear rim was hot and the rest of the wheels were not hot.
So I know that means some kind of brake job, but please tell me what exactly happend here?
