isspro tranny gauge problem

I tried to installmy gauges today, minus the egt cause diesel manor forgot to send the thermo coupler. The tranny temp was put in and wired up. All the gauges light up fine. The tranny temp sits at zero, never moves even the slightest. Didn't use any teflon tape, had the two wire probe. They are isspro gauges. There is power to the box that the wires from the sensor and that go to the gauge connect. I don't know what else to check. All the factory quick connects are tight. Any help without having to send it back in would be appreciated. thanks

Two things come to mind:

1- check for 12v power. I think you mentioned doing this - use a multimeter and see if you are getting 12v to the gauge. I was getting somewhere around 11.5 which is apparently enough to power the gauge.

2- There is a simple diagnostic you can do with the gauge. I can't remember for sure (the instructions for the test should come with your gauge). I think to do the test you need to have power to the gauge, then unplug from the trans temp sender, and put a jumper wire between the connections (effectively shorting the loop between the gauge and the temp sender). I think the gauge needle is supposed to go to 9 o'clock position when you do this.

Either #1 or #2 should tell you not enough power or bad gauge, respectively.

Ponch, It may be that you havent driven long enough to get temp in the tranny to make the gage move. I can drive country roads at 50-55 and the gage wont even move. But if I get on interstate and run 65-75 it will climb faster levels out around 160-170. You may have a bad gage or sender but I thought mine was bad at first. I drove 10-15 miles with stop and go on country roads to make it get heat in the tranny. Hope it is not a problem with the gage itself. If you want to know for sure hook up to a heavy load and the temp will climb much faster than empty. hope this helps.
