I've got a video of a 4x4 lifted Chevy spanking a 'vette in a drag lol. 4x4 is good for even launches, but in a pure weight scenario, yeah the 2WD has an advantage for the obvious reason of weight.
Alan once it stops raining I'll get you those pics.
Take you time, i'm not in any hurry. Wendell, i have a good reason for wanting a 4wd truck as a drag racer. trucks have no rear weight. This causes spinning of the rear tire unless you do one of three things, 1 you milk the gas till your in a gear where you wont spin the tires, 2 you put sand in the back, 3 you make the front wheels turn for more traction. now the only ways i could see making a 2wd a good dragester off the line is to put the engine in the bed. This is my logic, i like my logic, my logic works well at the track, thusfore, i am happy. besides, it's fun driving around in a truck that might almost keep pace with a ferrari
The 10 second trucks around here don't have the engines in the bed, or sand, they have racing slicks, and I'm sure some trick suspension. Launching in 4 wheel drive will put alot of strain on your front drive shaft and diff, more so on pavement. Then you have the added drag of the engine with 4x4 being engaged. I guess my thinking is, however fast your truck is, how much faster it would be if it was a 2 wheel drive with the same mods, "thats all". If it's fun , and you enjoy it, thats all that matters, "go get em killer" !!!!!!!!!
Well I gotta back Alan up on this one, yes it might (heavy emphasis on the might) be faster if it was a 2wd, but how embarrasing is it to the V8 power camaro owner to get owned by a V6 power 4 wheel drive Ranger. Believe me the look on thier face is priceless. I could be even faster in open class if I would run nitrous but the look on thier faces is priceless when they realized they just got beat by a truck that is all throttle no bottle. Well Alan has the same situation and I personally think it great.
Your not launching stock componetes on pavement either, you know how many front deive shafts that I have droped over the years just screwing around on pavement, just trying to do a 4 wheel brun out, more than I wanted to replace, I can tell you that. With his set up , I'm not so sure he will be smoking any camaro's, he's gonna be smoking parts ! If this is what he wants to do, "fine". aND i UNDERSTAND WHAT YOUR SAYING, AND THE SATISFACTION THATS TO BE HAD. He does however need to give some attention to his drive shafts, and diffs among other things so it can handle being launched hard in 4 wheel on pavement, you agree ?
Yep on that I agree. I figure at least a SAS swap in the front minimum and probably a 9" out back although the 8.8 will survive for awhile. Driveshaft build up isn't too difficult though.
WOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOO!!!!!! This is frigin awsome. Imagine a ranger with the power of a v8 f-150. Now you can say thats only a v6. this thing is sooo awsome. The kit is A++++. it took about a quarter tank of gas to tune it up right to respond with the turbo, but christ. 0-60 IN 5.1!!!!!!!! I'm going to get a camera, because did any of you guyz ever see all 4 wheels spin at once. your right about the power to axel ratio. it's too much for these things. they haven't broke... yet. i am curently looking for a new 4wd system. i think what will end up happening is a custom job. anyways, even with out a turbo, computer and slight other mods, this kit is awsome, easy to install, well considering what type of mod it is. the only way to describe it is like turning you v6 into a medium size v8. I did notice though it has more power through the whole rpm band, it had it's largest gain at the bottom end. still, next mod for speed it that rocket idea.
WOOOHOOO!!!
RP: thats a neet exuahst but looking at it i think i want something that comes off each header, come to an x pipe, then i actually use two mufflers. maybe something with a 2.5 system all the way through. thanx for the pics, i dont know what i'll do, and that looks like a good option if the dual pipe idea gets too messy.
Alen, sounds like you got your stroker kit installed, it also sounds like your quit happy with it. When are you gonna get to the dyno ? Stroker kits do improve your lowend, thats great on a truck, I don't know if thats such a good thing for drag racing. "Now we need to improve your topend for drag racing, for starters, get a set of headers, a high lift cam, a bigger tb(or at least have yours ported) a bigger maf, port and polish the heads, also bigger valves. I believe super six motorsports sell the stage 2 heads for racing for the 4.0, check out thier site, www.supersixmotorsports.com
No no no I know that lol. What's it to "port" a throttle body though. I've actually never found out what it is to port heads either, though I've always wondered that.
