Alen, could you do a dyno run with your turbo disabled some how, most of us poor sob's don't have a turbo. I'm interested in the results of the stroker kit on a stock motor, or some what stock.
He could just remove the turbo, provided his chip has a program for no-boost running. He can just stick a filter on the intake or run it CAREFULLY without one.
Shoot most of the race engines are run without an airfilter on the dyno anyway and a lot of them are raced that way (look at a top fuel dragster no filter) but then again they rebuild them after ever pass so never mind.
Yeah so it doesn't paticularly hurt them, I mean it's not good on an engine, but they might blow anyways, so what's it matter right? lol. Speaking of which, here's a funny thing about top fuel dragsters:
....Putting all of this into perspective: You are driving the average $240,000 NASCAR Winston Cup racecar. Over a mile up the road, a Top Fuel dragster is staged and ready to launch down a quarter mile strip as you pass. You have the advantage of a flying start. You run the stock car hard up through the gears and blast across the starting line and past the dragster at an honest 200 mph. The 'tree' goes green for both of you at that moment. The dragster launches and starts after you. You keep your foot down hard, but you hear an incredibly brutal whine that sears your eardrums and within 3 seconds the dragster catches and passes you. He beats you to the finish line, a quarter mile away from where you just passed him. Think about it, from a standing start, the dragster had spotted you 200 mph and not only caught, but nearly blasted you off the road when he passed you within a mere 1320 foot long race course.
Oh i forgot something i also got the heavy duty double rolling timing chain and performance camshaft.
Wendell, i'll be more than happy to do a dyno with and witout the turbo. i'll "Jeary rig" (what i'm german, i jeary rig things) and intake for it, and put a my stock filter on it. i kept all original parts in sealed plastic bags or boxes so that wont be a problem.
RP, i have to reprogram my computer like you guessed. when i built it, i never figured i would be running without the turbo with it.
Monsterbaby, I'M NOT RUNNING WITHOUT AN INTAKE!!! i fear i might never get to drive my creation if i do that.
oh, and rp can you get me infor on your exhaust. i like the sound of the dual pipe thing you got going. i think it will sound meaner, and help me run a little better
Alan, I wasn't really suggesting that you do run without it. Just making the point yes it's done but not on engines that are expected to live any length of time. Heck I rebuild my race engine every year.
Wish I had the money to rebuild once a year! Especially something that cool.
Alan I've got the stock headers, Y-pipe, cat converter, and flange. After the flange, the pipe goes to 2.5", into a Flowmaster 40 series SI/DO just to the passnger side of the rear of the tranny, which I then dumped afterwords with enough downturn to keep the exhaust off the spare, shocks, and brake lines.
It used to run with duals to the back of the muffler, but it wasn't loud enough and got in the way when I went to do my shocks, so I just sawzalled it off, loved the sound, so I just added a couple of turndowns.
if you could, i'ld much apperciate it. i really should put preformance headers on it, maybe after next paycheck i'll start looking into that. My lovely turbo would need modification but i think i would like like a 3.5 inch system. also i found this thing for a racing but still street legal application. it's a y coupling. you put it on, and when your going to race, just take off the plug on one part of the y, and bam, non-restricted flow. it(the air) comes out before the cat convet. Finnally true progress, we are starting to re-assemble. took off all those silly gaurds on the engine, most arent going back on unless they hold something in place(i.e. wires out of pullies). looks like i'll be doing some test run tommorrow.
Alen, why are you tring to turn a 4x4 ranger into a race truck ? A 2-wheel drive would be much more siuted for racing. The 4x4 has extra weight, t-case, front diff, and such, and the 4x4 is less areo because it sets up higher. I could understand it if your were building a mud thrasher, but for the strip, there will be 2 wheel drive trucks with less hp beat you to the end. A 4x4 isn't the truck you want to dump alot of money into to drag race. You may beat some trucks, but when all things are =, your gonna get smoked. I just don't want to see you waste your money on a truck thats not even close to being set up for drag racing. What you need is a 2 wheel drive ranger regularcab, short bed with a 4.0 5 gear, then you would have the makens of a drag racer, a long bed would work also, but short bed would be less weight.
There's no fast 4x4 rangers at the strip, around here, but there are some 10 second 2 wheel drive rangers, and S-10's. No matter how you look at it, a 4x4 is at a disavantage when lined up agaist an equaly equiped 2 wheel drive. You can't go against the laws of nature, more weight, less areo = you loose !!
