I think it might be a lot more productive to refab a cap as a reverse wedge for aero. Only hitch is rear visibilty. I've noticed a simple aluminum cap has some stabilty benefits on a couple of the Rangers I've had. This STX could care less, but an aero version could be interesting. Based on a tear drop of course. Then again, with that much power twisting the chassis, who the blazes knows? It IS cheaper on gas, though. How would you keep it in a straight line with with Ford's front end BTW? I wouldn't want get within shouting distance of a Ranger like that without a solid front axle. Or some very exotic tweaks. 300 hp should be a handful. How much rwhp you hoping for? Shoot, mine rocked like a cradle yesterday over the railroad tracks - between the lane lines! At 10 -15mph.
"WELL", in Alen's case, he's young, and learning. Bigger isn't allway's better, 45 pounds of boost isn't happening on a street driven truck, thats radical even on a race only truck, and would be deadly on engine componetes. A 4.5 stroker short block, stage 2 heads and cam, headers and his turbo will make for a beast, but around 19 pounds of boost will be all he's gonna want run. Trucks are at an areo disavantage, but for the kind of power he's wanting to make, he would be ok in alot of races. His truck is a 4x4, so thats another disavantage, more weight, and even less areo. If he really wanted to get serious about a fast 4.0 ranger, he should start with a 2 wheel drive 4.0 sohc ranger, and work from there. A 4x4 doesn't make a good drag truck persay on the pavement, but with his plans, it would make an awesome mud slinger. I think if he wants to build his 4x4, he should talk more with monsterbaby aout mud, or sand drags. I would think that they would have a v-6 class that he could compete in. If he wants to stick with street, or track, he needs a 2 wheel drive for starters.
I bougt the kit for 2500, it comes soon(forget the date, dont really care right now anywho, it's just the day i start working on it.) Anyway first of all i'm dreaming of 45 lbs, i already pull 25 lbs out a max. but i can feel that little engine screeming in pain. i'll likely run it at 22. i run it at 20 right now. 4 wd is actually better for first and second. think about it. i have enough torque to spin 2 tires, but not all 4.
Wish me luck. i think i'm gonna break it in to the fuel that i mentioned in another post that gets used in the chevelle.
Ok, It's here, and it's heavy(this commin from a guy who only wieghs 120). i opened it up and closed it. this project is too big for me. my cousins are going to talckel it over the week, so i wont have it around to drive.cant wait, i have a heat i'm entered in next weekend i hope it's done in time. we think we can pump 27 lbs of boost with the new head gaskets they had me get for it. I hope it's new driver can handle it. i'll report back on it when i test it out.
Does anyone think it might get better gas mileage with the new power? i'm kinda hoping so, because it will be more power with the same weight, but my logic could be flawed. wish me luck.
Jim that was a smart aleck comment, I don't know of anywhere you can get 130 octane gas (yes I was meaning gas) the highest I now of is 117 octane and was trying to make the point that your not going to be able to buy any gas that would work in that situation.
LOL. Thanks for the info. I was wonderin' and also why you would need that much octane with a 5:1 compression, but what the hell do I know, learn new stuff everyday. jd
RP, the kit i have came with everything pictured. basically light weight cast steel crank, forged I-beam connecting rods, forged pistons, performance piston rings, SpeedPro rod and main bearings. it's also balanced.it shouldnt take too long, i think 2 or 3 days. We are gonna clean the whole engine, shine it up and polish it. After it's finnished, i'll take er to a dinotester. i'll post results.
