I love half price day at "Pick Your Part" I got a 9" out of an 84 extra cab for $35 today. Now I have a place to put my posi carrier. Plus newer brakes to go with the discs up front. It ought to stop a little better once it's in. I do have one question will it be a direct bolt in or am I going to have to move the spring pads. Anybody that knows could you let me know.
check the width of the 80- newer F150 rearends. They should be wider than the 65-72's. Also from 80-83 Ford had a light duty F100 available that used the 4 1/2" (car)bolt pattern. I have a couple of those in the barn. That rearend would also have 31 spline axles and carrier.
Greg, There are some 31 spline that go back to 73 at least. That part doesn't matter as long as you use the axles and center section for 31.

In the cool still quiet of night, you can hear chevies rusting away.
Thats why I bought it, I knew it would have 31 spline axles. My carrier is a 31 spline. It is a 5X5 1/2 bolt pattern I might get the small pattern axles to match the front wheels(volare clip) in the near future.
I know I can find a local machine shop that can do it for less than the shipping to IN but thanks for the tip. I only carry a spare on longer trips and don't even have one for the front yet. My tires are different sizes front and rear so I'm not rotating them. It dosen't bug me to have the different bolt patterns so it will probably stay like that for a while. Like I said in the past more important things on the to do and spend money on list.
