All of the stereo install guides say that 6x9's won't fit. I put in 5.25's up front, but want to put the bigger 6x9's in the back door. Has anyone put 6x9's in the rear door without any problems from the window? I don't mind cutting the panel, just didn't know if they would go too deep to allow the window to close. I'm out of town so I can't measure it myself and would like to order them or the 5x7's if I have to before I get back home, Thanks.
I think the oem speakers are 6x8's. I was looking at replacing mine and the guy looked it up and that was the size required. He recommended infinity's which were available in a 6x8.
Mine don't really sound to bad and there are 6 speakers in the truck. Was wondering if they have already been replaced??? Could six be from the factory? May ust need to replace the head unit.

Interesting. The OEM ones in the front doors are definately 5x7, I just took those out last week. If you go to Crutchfield.com, or polkaudio.com, they both say that 6x8 won't fit. I figured this was just because the 5x7 hole was too small, but maybe it won't fit because of the depth. I have emailed Polk Audio and am waiting to see what they, but more curious to see if anyone has put 6x9(or 8's) in their doors without any problems from the window.
I, too, am curious if anyone has mounted 6x9 speakers in any of the factory 6x8 locations.
Checking in with Crutchfield.com tells me that there are actually 6x8 speakers in the front doors, rear door, and rear quarter panels. They must have updated their website since the 2006 post, or maybe, like *****, our speakers sag over time?
we install speakers everyday in fords.... 5x7 6x8 same thing... manufacture to manufacture measure differ... installed both sizes in fords... no problems.... 6x9 tend to have a huge mag and u would end up destroying the door/door panel installing them... if u want more volume do a 51/4 plate or do a 6.5 seperates that coaxial mount or a 6.5 seperate mount mid in door and custom mount tweet... hope this helps
What about the third row speakers. I would think there would be plenty of room to do some cutting back there. I would like some more bass, but don't want a box taking up space, and don't want to spend for the JL console.

Yeah that would prolly work... but to get a decent amount of bass u would need to enclose the 6x9 or u can prolly fiberglass some pods behind the panels for a little 5"-6" woofer to fit... we just did a new porsche with 4 each 6" JL woofers in the back.... not to shabby is u ask me... but let me know what u do and how it sounds....
