That would be Leroy Jorgenson as what was Leroy's Tramsmission in Castro Valley, S.F. bay area. Now at 67 years of age he closed his doors in June 2005 besides the market for 350/400, C-4/C-6 and 727's is small compared to new throw away vehicles.
A few old farts he ran with are still on the NHRA circuit back when he was in Top Fuel.
Over the last 30 years I used to hang out at the shop and watch him pull apart boxes, he could tell by how they were assembled / butchered by who rebuilt it last as each clip joint left their own clues.
Vic Hubbard's Speed and marine used to send their B & M's to him but after a few he refused to work on low quality crap. A person with high standards and quality control hence a one man custom shop. Racers went to him and he was always busy just by reputation only no advertising neccessary.
A person who would rather have you use a seal swell product to keep a old transmission working 6 months longer than looking for extra rebuild money, a honest person. Years ago the state EPA even made him remove his parts washer heater fired by used ATF, here in Cali they are destroying the business force in this state. After 45 years wrenching can you blame him for wanting out? Even the quality of replacement parts are questionable, have seen a rebuild get wasted by a new torque converter that failed.
Besides i'm the proud owner of his cherry 75 R90/6 Beemer.
I see your on the east coast, what goes on in California stays in California.
Ya got me rambling on sorry.

Leroy has boxes of black and white pictures in the 50's and 60's era that are cool. Like him they were pioneers of drag racing that made speed parts, later on manufactures go on the money wagon.
Ok guys,
I have some pictures ready to post for review, mainly for you guys to look at and tell me what I need to through away and replace. There was some discussion about the thrust washers, I am having trouble getting any. Mostly because the transmission shops dont want to sell you stuff like that they want you to bring in the transmission so they can get the labor. I am hopeing maybe I can reuse thiese. I hope to get some input from you guys. I cant post atatchments here so how do I make thies pictures available for you to view? Help!!!!
lol, Brad

Ok, I tried to send you the pictures Stuart and it didnt work at all I dont think. I mad a gallery and some of the pictures were uploaded, but not all. so for a compleat set I have uploaded a self extracting rar file (for thouse people that dont have winrar compression software) to Rapidshare. You can download them here http://rapidshare.de/files/30357099/...100_custom*****. There are 60+ pics and the file is 78 mb, make shure you tell it where to extract to or it will default to your root c drive. Thanks Everyone and look forward to hearing from you.

Beemer Nut, "My old tranny builder used that abrasive screen material and spun the drum in the lathe." Are you talking about the same screen that is used to sand drywall? Or is it finer then that? I got a million sheets of that stuff onhand, but wet dry sandpaper isnt something I use, so I dont have any. It is a little dificult right now for me to get anywhere to get anything differant so I would like to know if I can use what I have.
You want to break the glaze and leave a soft smooth but dull finish not to agressive or you'll wear away the band friction material. What I recall was around 150-200 grit, I wouldn't use your sheetrock 100 grit paper.
Use any paper in that grit range you'll be fine as the friction material will break in the drum.
