stuart1;
I have the older 65-67 (?) forged intermediate band on the C-6, question, where can this be relined these days as they are rare and I want this one back?

Thanks, will do as my custom trans builder is now retired. I have to get the papers on what was modified internally first. It has firm to too hard of shifts with standard line pressure, pressurized spray to the sprag and many other things done. A super low stall converter that has loosened up or ballooned out behind a 414. First custom converter was a shaker.

Bradb2230, I used the Haynes Ford Automatic Transmission overhaul book but, still doesn't tell you what is or might be broken on the inside. You will have to tear it down to find what's actually needed, extra that is. I assure you that you will need several thrust washers in as many sizes. Band may be good, clutches bad. I had a broken beville washer, quite large and probably expensive, that I welded and ground back down smooth. Good Luck

Do the rebuild yourself. There are many sources to help you. A good C6 video will help you out a lot, plus draw from the experience on this board. I have built 3 or 4 C6's and a half dozen C4. After you do the first one, you will wonder why you were so afraid. My last rebuild cost me about 125 with converter. Always replace the converter. The video from "Technical Video" is excellent. I'm sure there are others. One word of advice, put the remote control in a plastic bag.

I have seen bad used converters wipe out a fresh trans rebuild. Besides being full of friction material the converter is a sludge trap and they loosen up.
Flush your cooling lines and cooler.

Ok I am feeling a little stupid here. Several people mention the converter. You guys are talking about the torque converter between the tranmission and the moter? If so I would like to know what type of converter to get. can anybody help?

Yes torque convertor.

If there are any burnt or badly worn transmission components it is advisable to replace the convertor.

For your application a stock convertor should be suitable.

While a higher stall convertor can get a bit more out of the engine after while it gets to be a PITA.

if you don't replace that converter you will only pump all the clutch junk back into the unit and fry all your work done
