Hey....
This the same thread you started back on 7/20/06!!
Well, here's my reply, again!
I have an OEM low profile bugshield. It has 2 stand-offs to keep it off the paint outside of the grill area.
Sure the shield is mounted between the grill and hood, but as long as it is tight, you should not have any problems.
I've had my truck up 90 mph and the shield does not move. If it did not have the 2 stand-offs, I could see that it would flap outside of the grill area and rub the paint.

My AVS chrome shield on my 06 mounts in a way that no part of the shield itself touches the hood. Prolly a minimum of 1/2 clearance. It could marr the part of the grill trim it comes out of after mounting. Nuttin' to be done there, but wait yes their is! Put some clear mylar film on the mating surfaces first. Not the whole surface, but only at the "touch" points.
Happy F-150 ing!

BTW I think that the only thing a "bug deflector" is good for is to keep rock chips off the front edge of the hood.

Remember the old style bug deflectors. Butt ugly straight up and down plastic. But guess what they worked!
