anyone have any links or tips??

Heard you need to wrap the coax cable in a figure 8, and keep the antenna ahead of you

On the hood?

Never seen that before, I've seen 'em on the bed rails right behind the cab, on the roof, even on the front or rear bumper...never on a hood. lol

Wouldn't it be better on the mirrors?

Or hard to tell but you must have those plastic mirrors?

Firestik Hood CB Antenna Mount [Firestik SS274A] - $19.95

No need for the figure 8 or anything like that. There are several myths out there about coax and lengths and routing and all other kinds of stuff.

What kinda radio are you going to be running? CB or 10 meter?

i have a magnetic mount wilson 1000 on the roof in the back dead center. i ground away part of the 3rd brake light housing to run the cable in the cab so just about all you see is the antenna and 2'' of cable.

I used a Wilson 500 Magnet Mount, put it on the cowl panel on the drivers side, works well there.

I took mine off, but there's a 3/4in hole drilled in the roof to mount the antennae. I've got a plug in it now, but all the wiring is still there, and it wouldn't take 5 min to put it back on.

K40 makes an excellent trunk lid mount antenna base that would work well on a hood, too. Take a look: K-40 Antenna I've ran several K40's through the years, and been extremely pleased with all of them

The little wills are good antennas, especially on the receive side. The problem is that they're still a mag mount. Mag mounts don't ground very well to your vehicle. If you start pushing any power through your radio or add a foot warmer, you will find that your SWR's start climbing really, really quickly. That trunk lid mount K40 gets a much better ground & does much better on the transmit side.

It's not as bad as you would think, they just need to be properly tuned (Plus my radio is modded) and my antenna is a perfect match to it

The mag mount 1000 can handle some serious power no doubt! Its a great antenna for most everyone but if you want to run some power and need a mag mount then step up to the 5000. Those things can take some crazy power! They can also be had in mag mount, trunk mount and roof top mount.

In all honesty I cant remember if mine is a 1000 or a 5000, either way it is honestly the best antenna I have ever owned.

i got 2 k-40 4 foot whips on my tool box and i had a nice cobra cb to go with em i had good signal with them i also had a k-40 5 foot wire whip mounted to my front fender that got stolen with my cobra but it did a amazing job. once i buy my new tool box tho im going to go with a 102 inch wire whip dead center of the box behind the cab. i hooked one up for a buddy and we could pick up people from northbend and we were just north of tekamah its about 40-50 miles away
