Long Torx Socket

I helped a friend a while back, with a plenum on a Ford. He used a long torx to remove it. Well, I always keep my eye out for tools I am missing (just in case) and today came across, a Snap~on, extra long torx socket, T40. I picked it up, but when I talked to my friend, he said what we used was a T27, I seem to remember once needing something like this, but can't remember for what.

So, do I still need to keep my eye out for the T27, and what is this one good for?

Thanks

If I remember right, my 87 bronco II's 2.9 used T50 or T55 head bolts. I ended up buying 3 of them to get all the bolts out after twisting the first 2. Anyhow, most seatbelt mounts use torx head bolts and that is the size you'll probably most commonly need. But I'd buy a complete set anyway.

You needed the six inch long torx for that?

Seatbelt mounts and the like, are normally fine with the standard length (of which I have a nearly full set, missing smaller then T10, computer size T8, etc). I also have a full set of the security bits. Just trying to find the needs of the 4 1/2" or longer, specialty torx sockets.

nah, short torx with a 3" extension or 2(6"). I'm awake now, and re-read yer post. I wouldn't buy the long ones until it seems to be needed. The short ones with extensions are all you'll need.

The extension won't fit through the hole in the 5.0 intake, I found that out doing an engine swap. Wound up using a Torx bit for one of those screwdriver handles, with a wrench on it.

I use 1/4" socket with a 1/4" drive extention on torx bit. Use a little electrical tape so bit won't fall out. It flexes much less than the long torx sockets do.

the long t40 was used for the 5.0 intake. If you cut about an inch off the long t40, its perfect for the injectors on a 6.0 diesel.

I bout torx sockets many years ago. I remember having to buy the T27 from the snap-on man. I used it when I worked on motorcycles
