Speed Week
I will be camped at the "Bend in the Road" with my baby (12 foot) camp trailer and driving my red jeep wagon.
The salt flats are located at the state line between Utah and Nevada, east of Reno along I 80. Wendover is the nearest town. Anyone who wants to join me can just throw a sleeping bag in the back of their truck and bring a cooler full of sandwiches and beer.
They allow spectators to mingle with the pit crews, and full run of the pits. Just be prepared for desert sun with no shade within 30 miles.

Make sure you take very dark green glasses because the salt is so white, and if you are by yourself, look us up in the pits because we'll have a shelter in the pits. Take a bike to go from the trailer to the pits, some have motor scooters. I paid the premium on the FTE membership and am joining the NorCal and Nevada Chapters. There is even a guy near me in Golconda (150 miles). In Nevada, that's close. So far I have the donor 70 Ford Flatbed and am dismantling it to put all its guts in the '56 F-250 frame. I don't think I'll have to narrow the front end, either.

We will see about a bike but I am limited for space. I am building my 59 so I can have a box for things like that when I travel, and also for all those neat parts and old iron you find along your way.
I will take you up on your kind offer of shade - I have been looking for one of those big Mexican sombreros to take with me!
Also, his speed tires - black shoe polish to hide the cracks and weather-checking from the technical inspectors, and used a carving knife to remove the normal hwy tread.
But best, no effective brakes and no chute. I get yelled at on the other forums when I tell them the best way to stop our old trucks in an emergancy is not an expensive disk brake conversion, but to just run into something!
In 1967 he used a motorcycle he bought new in 1920 to set a record that still stands.
