Not Complaining

I am wondering why this site (probably the neatest on the net) moves from page to page ect. ect. so slowly. I would suspect it may be because it stays so busy 24/7. Is that a good guess?

Its usually pretty quick for me, except during the typical "peak" times in the evening. Even then its usually not as bad as some other boards I frequent.

There are all sorts of reasons for that and some are because of your computer.

1) Cookies for instance.

The browser collects cookies and becayse of all the info on FTE,your browser is collecting MORE than an average amount of them on your computer.

2) Your means of browsing.. Dial-up/DSL/ Broadband ISP

3) How full your cache is can slow down your computer.

4) I heard a fragentmented computer can slow down browsing...
Not sure of that's true or not.

But yes, FTE is so HUGE that it will affect some computers more than others.

Question: How fast does a page ...already visited...... load compared to one you haven't visited?

I clear the cookies every week or so, I defrag probably twice a week. I have been using the internet almost from the day Al Gore invented it. One problem for me is probably while here in Alaska I am stuck with DSL only. At my Charlotte base of operations I have better. It is just that compared to the other sites I visit while in Fairbanks FTE is noticeably slower, I choose to blame it on a combination of DSL and the popularity of FTE.

Then you are aware that clearing the FTE cookies will make it take longer to load the FTE pages ?

"Supporters" also get preferential treatment when it comes to availible bandwidth.

You can become a supporter for about 15 bucks a year. I've saved ALOT ,ore than that via the info here.

Actually, I hadn't noticed that it does load slowly from page to page. I know I'm a supporter, but I don't sign in unless I'm going to post or I want to read what crazy thing Dennis has posted in the Members Only Forum. There are times when I can't get FTE at all, but those times are becoming more and more rare. And usually, if I can't get on anonymously, I can't get on as a supporter (w/cookies enabled).

And if you're going to become a supporter, forget the one year membership. Go with the 3 year, you get a really cool FTE t-shirt. And unless something changed, Ken didn't skimp on quality, it's a nice thick Hanes Beefy-T.
