I was wondering if the 48-52 F-2/F-3 trucks ever had the bed side spare tire mount? Today I just got one off a '47 1 ton which has the exact same box. It fits perfectly but I would have to dimple the fender like on the '47. I was just wondering.

I don't know about the F2 and larger trucks but I know the F1's had them. I saw a recent pic of one in a FTE gallery but I can't remember whose it was. My truck has marks on the bedside and the runnign board where a spare tire mount was mounted. The fenders did not have to be dimpled as the spare mounted above and to the front of the fender.
Mine was on the passenger side. It looks like there was a plate that sandwiched the upper slanted part of the bedside and went down to the running board.
I'll do a search and see if I can jog my memory on whose truck I saw the mount on....it was in the last couple of weeks.
I don't think that was factory because I don't think they ever anchored it to the running board and they always dimpled the fender unless it was the 9 ft box. I've seen pictures of them on a '40, '46, '53 and they always had the dimpled fender. Mine was welded to the stake pocket and riveted to the bed floor brace. There was a homemade one on my '51 F-1. The P/O put a dint in the fender with a hammer.

I dont know if it was factory or aftermarket. On my truck I can just tell where it was bolted to the bedside. The paint is in better shape where it was protected underneath the mount. The running board was screwed up though. There were two bolt holes just in front of the rear running board bracket and I guess that they didn't use any kind of spacer because the ridges on my running board were flattened where they bolted it down hard. They eventually came loose and tore out the whole area on the board. But, on the bright side....no one took and hammered in a big dimple in my fenders
Dueller - Look at eBay #220005831225. It's a 52 with the spare on the right side board. I've never known this to be factory on 48 - 52s, but this one sure looks original. Maybe a question to the seller would shed light. Good luck.
I find it interesting you could get a factory bedside tire carrier on the 42-47 trucks but then they dropped the option for the 48-52 and brought it back on the 53-56's. I think I will put on my truck for a custom look. Only a true Ford truck enthusiast will know that it never had a bedside spare but it will look factory.
Thats an interesting look on the ebay truck, even though they cut the heck out of the fender to make it fit.
I'm not sure what I will do on my truck. The under bed mount isn't and option as I installed a rear mount fuel tank. Right now my truck is not a daily driver and I probably won't be making any long highway trips so I've just been gambling and driving around without a spare.
I'll be carrying a temporary or full sized spare in the bed with a plain black tire cover over it that I saved from my Jeep Wrangler. I don't go anywhere without a spare...
