I've pretty much decided to rebuild my bed. Just need repopped front and crossmembers. My question is that the side has the factory spare tire mount and should I strip it for looks, or would it still look "kinda cool" if the spare matches tire tires. Here are a couple pics of the truck now,
Personally I've always liked the look of the spare hanging off the side. Then again, I suppose it would depend on what wheel/tire combo you are going with. Fat, low profile tires look good on the ground but not so much on the hanger. To me, they look "out of place". I hope to be able to go with stock looking white walls and the hanging spare looks "right" to me. If you are going for a slicker look, leave it off. But then where will your spare be? At home?
Im going to remove my stock side spare and was thinking of looking at the system that Ford had on the F1, mounted under the bed, like new trucks still have. After all, the 42-47 frame is nearly identical dimension wise the the F1.
She looks good John ! Those grill bars, are they new ? Here's food for thought..... make the bed tip, electric / hydraulic kits are available and very compact.
Steve.
i like the (under the bed) idea, just a pita to remove, especially in the rain. is bed going to be covered? could mount it on front bed wall? no! won't look right. inside bed on deck? might work, depending on your plans for use. would be easy to get to. newold46 is right about size of tire making difference visually. maybe a full moon cap painted to match truck?
Here's what I'm running. They're Wheel Vintiques Genies (All steel), powdered black with Ford Script caps and I want to get the small outside trim ring (stainless-polished).
What think yee?
Steve - Really admire your work ! I'd kinda like to drive it before I'm too old (and too broke) ! Yea, the grill bars are new (but purchased about 7 years ago as the chrome and metal aren't complete "crap")
