You will get better mileage and performance if you keep the FI but changing to a carbureator is easy. I'd go with an AOD for the transmission if you like OD. If not, a C4 or FMX would be the way to go. I would not use a C6 with a 302. It is overkill...

Go with the 302 F.I.good performance, drivability and fuel mileage. It's hard to beat modern technology! Also I would use an AOD with a 3.50 to 4.11 rear end.

This eng/trans combo is easy to install in these 50s trucks, plenty of room.

Being you have the 302, this would be my choice, I would keep it EFI for sure as (in my small experience) the fuel mileage and power will be tough to duplicate with a carb, at least that is what I found taking off an EFI from a 5.0 mustang and replacing it with a carb, could be something in the set up as well so please you carb lovers don't crucify me! I have owned at least 3 302 engines and to be honest the 2 351W's (one in a mustang, one in a f 250 4x4) where for me, better in mileage, power and way way better in dependability. But free is a hard price to beat plus having EFI on a vintage looks cool. Good luck Dave

i have a 57 f100 with a 289 in it and it does a bang up job for me, and i'm a 5000 feet elevation here in albuq. it hhas an 85 or so aod tranny i think it came out of a mustang. it also has a volare ifs. if there is any thing easier to install i've yet to see it! it has the stock rearend with 15 in wheels. i've been to calif. twice with no problems. i get about 16 mpg at 65 mph. reasonable, considering the weight. lots of luck.
