The odometer, speedometer and air conditioner on my F-150 4x4 truck all quit today, all at the same time. The truck still runs but I heard a little clattering when it all happened, then the noise stopped. I managed to still drive truck home, no overheating or change in oil gauge or battery charge. Anyone know what caused this? I hate to just arrive at the repair shop without knowing anything and be taken by a not so honest mechanic just because I'm not a guy.
i would start checking fuses. the a/c shares a couple different fuses w/ other components. it is possible than you blown a fuse or 2. you did'nt mention wheither the blower quit or the a/c quit getting cold.
F-150, no haven't checked the fuses, not sure I want to touch those. It would just be my luck I'd break something else. Are the fuses inside the truck or under the hood?
Fuse panel is on the passenger side near the floor board against the outside wall. So if you were sitting in the front passenger seat it would right next to your right foot. On the fuse box cover there is a fuse puller, look in your owners manual and it'll tell you what fuse is what and then pull the correct fuse and see if it blew.
Janet, please tell us more info about your truck. Year, options, model and so on.
The listing on the fuses has optional items. But if the speedo, odo and A/C is out, then it may be fuse #5. This would apply if you have the electronic climate control. But you may also have an additional problems.
Please let us know the info on your truck.....

I goofed, my pickup truck is a 2003, we bought it in 2004 so I was confused when I went in to look for the fuse panel. It's by the hood latch near my left knee, drivers side. I decided to go ahead and take each fuse out and check it, they all look ok, no broken wires or anything. Here's all I know about my truck, 2003 Ford F-150 XL, Triton V8 engine, 4x4. No power windows or door locks, no power seats, no climate control, no sun roof, no cd player just standard am/fm radio, but I do have cruise control. I also noticed today when I finished checking the fuses that when I put it in 4wd, there's no display on the dash showing its in 4wd. Also, I don't understand when you refer to "fuse #5", there is nothing on the fuse panel that denotes a 5 except the number on the fuse itself, there's 5's, 10's, 15's, 20's, 30's, so how do you know which one would be fuse #5?
You have to look at your owners manual and it will show you the location of "Fuse #5". It might also be printed on the inside of the kick panel but I am not sure. And just because a fuse might look good doesnt mean it is...if you have a continuity meter it is a easy check...if not then I might suggest a fuse swap with a known good fuse of the same size. If it then blows again...then it will need to get repaired. If it doesn't cross your fingers and hope it was just a freak occurance.
