My 01 F150 (4.6L 2WD 106,000 miles) is giving me some trouble. When warm or cold, upon accelerating, my truck surges/shakes/stumbles and cuts out. The intake actually backfired this morning. Only occurs under moderate to heavy acceleration, but that's just about what I have to do to get this thing to move. It just doesn't seem to won't to go. Its driving me crazy. Service Engine Soon light is not on. Under hard acceleration, I can hear a pinging noise, kind of a gurgle that sounds like its coming from under my feet. I changed the plugs and one COP about 5k ago. The fuel filter was changed 10k ago. I use 87 octane gas. I recently Sea Foamed it to see if that would help. It didn't. Where should I start? Any suggestions?
I would check to see if your fuel presure is ok, also check to see if you have any air flow problems. Wouldn't hurt to clean your MAf sensor, and check your o2 sesnors.
I'd clean the MAF (probably needs it anyway if you haven't already performed it), then get fuel pressure checked. A faulty fuel pump will give you the symptoms you described, and most likely not throw a CEL.
What kind of readings should I see if I have corrrect fuel pressure (in psi.). Is there a fuel pressure port on the fuel rail that I would use to get a reading? I have one on my Impala SS LT1 motor at the back of the fuel rail, so I wonder if my f149.5 has one in there somewhere?
