I have a 1970 F-100 with a 302 V8 engine and stock carbourator. Recently, gasoline has been coming out of the two holes in the top of the carb. I have checked the float, and it seems to be where it belongs when the carbourator is full of gas. The needle (the rubber-tipped thing attatched to the back of the float that closes the valve behind it) seems to be closing off the valve like it should.
Any ideas about why this thing is overflowing? I can't seem to figure this one out. Thanks in advance.
Brandon check and make sure the retaining clip on the float is clipped over the top of needle seat. I just rebuilt the original motorcraft on my 302 and it was flooding like that too. if the retainer is not clipped over the seat the whole float and needle is pushed up by the flow of gas into the carb. give it a check and see.
That's exactly what it was. It was driving me nuts trying to figure that one out. I just rebuilt it and had two days until I had to head back to school here (I don't have internet access at home - I wish I could have replied earlier).
