Okay so I've got my old 5.0 out of my 96 f150 it was a mass air motor.. I've got multiple options and I need to know whether or not to keep the old motor and just save the block and build on it. Or just save up $ and buy a crate motor.. It will be driven often.. Won't really see mud often mostly street.
Would I want to consider going carbourated?
If I keep the old 302 block and just bore it to a 306 or get a stroker kit?
I would forget the crate motor, they don't seem to have a very good reputation. I would find a local shop with a good reputation that rebuilds engines and have them rebuild your old engine.
Kind of sounds like you want a little more power. Boring your block to a 306 won't gain any noticeable power, it will just even up the taper on the cylinder walls for hopefully longer ring and engine life. Personally I don't like stroker kits, I feel it will hurts reliability. If you want more power, I would consider going to a 351.
I would keep the fuel injection and forget the carburetor. All the above just my opinion of course.
Between a crate motor and having your block redone, that really comes down to the current condition of your engine right now. What exactly do you want out of the truck. Just a simple street truck? Or do you want a tire shredder? I thing a full free flowing exhaust, headers, cam and head upgrade on your 302 would be a great setup honestly. That is of course after you get the block off to the machine shop. Pair that with some 4.11 gears. Then there's option B, 351 swap. Build up a 351 with the same upgrades and have an even better street beast. For the tire shredder route, look for a 351, turn it into a 393 or 408 stroker and tune the EEC. That would be quiet a machine.
I honestly wouldn't bother with a stroker due to them not being as durable as a normal motor. I would go with your block if its salvageable, bore it to 306 so the walls are even, and do the upgrades I listed above. That's my recommendation.
P.S. Why do you keep making new threads all on the same topic?
Well the block needs bored but it is usable.. heres what parts I'm thinking of and tell me if there compatible.. I don't wanna go ordering all of these and something not fit or these parts not work together and have a bunch of paper weights..
i would rebuild the 5.0 i did that and i havent looked back. i built it with comps 31-255-5, a set of 1.7 crane rockers, gt40 heads, longtube headers with flowmaster 44s, and a new trac lock differential with 4.10 gears. of course i had good wires and plugs and other little things but help it run that much better, but for power, its awesome, puts stock trucks to shame.
is the edelbrock intake necessary or could i just use the stock truck intake or even the intake from a HO motor
Yes use the stock truck intake and with the money you save get a Moates Quarterhorse, Binary Editor software, and a wideband O2 sensor to tune your engine.
Both the lower and upper intake look like they have some black buildup so I didn't know if porting would be necessary.. So will those headers match t heads
My .02 is put a used 351 in it (hey its already bigger than a 347, right?) get the y pipe from a junkyard truck with a 351. Get on Craigslist and get a set of GT40 heads(not the p heads), some pacesetter shorty headers headers from Summit. The cam you like looks good, and you have a good cheap build that will make plenty of street usable power and torque.
