THe holley 1 bbl I have keeps flodding out. I can see through the glass bowl and the float seems to be sticking. Last night it was doing the same thing, so I too the float out and bent the shutoff valve and it seemed to work just fine. This mornin on the way to work same thing. But this afternoon It was filling again. Any suggestions?
If you're using an electric fuel pump it may be putting out to much pressure, if so then you need to buy a fuel pressure regulator to reduce the pressure, they only cost about $22.00.
ok I rebulit the carb, but it didn't come with a float. I think the manual fuel pump is putting out too much pressure cuz it still floods out every now and then. Does anyone have a part number for the float so I can see if maybe that is the problem. And I appreciate yall's input. I'm going to get an electric fuel pump,, but what psi should I run? I've heard anywhere from 2-3 or 5-7?
Maybe it's not a carb problem. Maybe it's a fuel pump problem. Isn't the fuel pump supposed to bypass at 3 psi or so? Me, I like to fix things so I'd want to take the fuel pump apart and see what's wrong. If it is gummed up, try cleaning it in a caustic solution. Maybe ammonia, or some weak (diluted) drain cleaner. Or you could try dumping a bunch of Marvel Mystery Oil in the gas tank to try to wash it clean. Problem with that idea is that the whole fuel system, the tank, fuel line, pump and carb, might be gummed up so it would take a while to get it all clean. Of course, if it is not the fuel pump, if it is debris in the fuel system that's getting through and clogging the float's inlet needle system, what you'll need is a new fuel filter and to flush the line from the filter to the carb clean.
I'd first ask if the Needle valve in the kit came with a new valve seat? In other words the little metal holder the valve fits in? It may be worn and flopping around a bit causing it not seat right.
Another cause can be floats not set to the right depth. Normally a certain height is set at the top of play that seats the needle valve. If the float is off a little bit the exact problem you are mentioning happens.
Also I would replace the glass bowl with an aluminum one for safeties sake.
the kit did have a new needle in it and when I set the float to the correct depth it flooded like hell. I think I'll check out your idea on the dirty fuel system(it sat for 19 yrs). The fuel pump is new so I might also try a regulator. Thanks again yall--jax
a carb kit wont contain a float but you can buy one they come neoprene or brass. the old brass is prone to pinhole leaks. sounds like the problem here. hope this helps!
