I know I asked once before but I have to confess I forgot. Which is the high side and which is the return port on the p/s gear box? I'm assuming the tube out the center of my pump is the high side there since it has the compression fittings on it. I got the old column and box out last night after work and am putting in the new this morning. I hope to be plumbing it up in a few hours. Thanks in advance,
Thanks, I found that right after I posted this a.m. Unfortunately it didn't count for much. The gearbox I was sold has a part # that starts D9.... It hits my engine perch. There must be something changed in '77 when the FE's were discontinued that makes the '79 gearbox incompatible with the '68 FE's perch. It's close, but I can only get one bolt in. The other two miss by about 1/4". Got all the manual stuff back in til I can get another gearbox.

Easy Big Dan not to despair, You need a left perch from a 360 with power steering. It is angled forward and the top moves up one set of holes, then the gear will fit just fine. All of the gears as the same from 65 to 79.
I have also heard of grinding a notch in the perch to except the gear. Your call.

Mr. John,
I was about to decide you were sending me after a part that they kept next to the chrome muffler bearings when, lo and behold, I found it. Four different yards and dealers all said they never heard of it. The dealer even looked thru the Ford parts book and couldn't find where there was a different perch for an FE pulling p/s. Then I drove out and checked on the truck I got my tranny out of and presto, angled forward, mounted in different holes, a little lower profile on the ridge, there it was. Now I just gotta go pick up the 800# chunk of iron sitting on top of it and I can take it home.
Thanks fellow,
DB

Got the perch. It was a snap--'course the truck it came from didn't have an engine. Putting it in my truck looks like it'll be the hardest part of the p/s conversion. These were some hard to get at bolts with both I-beams running right below 'em.
I was on Sheldon Drive, at a place that makes tank level gauges for jet fuel storage tanks. It looked like a newly developed area, real nice. Probably be up at Bragg/Pope for a week or so within the next few months. I may drive on up if I get a chance.
