Sometimes my headlights will flash on and off, at their choosing. when i bought it, they did this, but the dimmer switch was stuck on dim, i changed that and they worked for a month, no blinking. then last night they flashed a few times. I havent taken her out tonight because the rearend gear went south so i don't know if it will do it again. any ideas of what is causing this?
Nick
The problem is usually traced to either the switch wiring connector being loose or the switch itself. There is a safety overload in there which is designed to keep the circuit from over-heating. It weakens over time causing the blinking. If the harness connector is not loose then change your headlight switch. To change the switch you have to remove the headlight dash **** and shaft together. There is a spring loaded push button on the metal part of the switch body under your dash. Press that down and pull out the **** and shaft as one unit. Then you remove the dash bezel. Couldn't be simpler.

Good advice from stockman, my truck had this problem before, I installed a new switch, and fixed it. it's bad to have your lights flash off at night in a curve at 60 mph ain't it.
Normally the light switch will solve the problem on the blinking lights. You may also want to check for a short or an overload before you buy an new switch. I found a short in the wiring on my 81 F150 at 239K. It was easy to spot because the wires with the short were melted on the connector for the switch. I found the short under the bed where a loop of wire had rubbed agaist the frame.
