Does anyone know for certain when the v10 heads were redesigned to have 7/8 threads for each plug from the origional 3/4. I am fighting the blown plug issue on #5 and do not want to disturb anything by pulling a plug to look at my particular head. My dealer is saying it was not until they went to 3 valves per cylinder.
96ozarker -- FYI...your dealer is an idiooot! Redesigned when the 3v came out...what a joke! Redesigned on the 3v yes, but that was because the head was completely redesigned.
What you are talking about is...The head was redesigned in 2001 model year, however some folks claim they have the newer heads on 2000 model year V10s (they might be late model 2000 releases).
Hope this helps...

Let me try this again. I understand from many postings that the origional heads had 2 to 4 threads per spark plug hole and later was redesigned to have 7 or 8 threads per spark plug hole. I do not know if this was coincident with the 3 valve redesign or not. I have a post January 2002 build.
i think we all got messed up with the fractions 3/4 and 7/8. sorry about that. i am not totally sure, i think it was a running change, but your heads being post 02, you should have the 7-8 threads.
My 2001 V10, motor manufactured in 09/2000, has 7-8 threads in the holes.
It is my belief that the "PI" heads introduced in MY 2000 went to the higher thread count. There was not an updated head released for 2002. I once went through this and looked up Ford part numbers for the later heads and they were still the same as the 2000 heads.
that dealer is only smeeling a big money repair job .tow it out and get your self a time sert or full torque thread repair kit and put a solid insert in all the plug holes .
your 02 ex has the newer pi heads and your poping a plug is do to poor mantainace of the plugs never being retorqued ,
if you heard a noise for a while like a exhaust leak before the plug let loose that was the loose plug,
